Kemenpar seeks waste guidance in Bali after 298 sanctions
44 businesses still are not compliant, while many hotels, restaurants and cafes now sort waste into just three categories.
The Ministry of Tourism proposed guidance from the Ministry of Environment for hotel, restaurant and cafe operators in Bali after 298 horeka businesses were hit with administrative sanctions over waste management through early June 2026. At a coordination meeting in Denpasar on Tuesday, Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa said 44 businesses remain noncompliant. She said most operators already manage waste themselves or use third parties, but practices in the field still do not fully follow PP Nomor 81 Tahun 2012, which requires sorting into five types. Many businesses now separate only organic, inorganic and B3 waste. The main obstacles cited were limited space, cost, the risk of waste being mixed again during transport, and difficulty finding certified waste management vendors.
