Kemenkeu to install 240 cigarette tax stamp trackers in 9 months
The Track and Trace system is being tested in Jawa Tengah, with data set to link directly to central Customs.
The Ministry of Finance is preparing a Track and Trace system to curb cigarette tax stamp counterfeiting and strengthen oversight of illegal cigarettes. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the technology, developed with PERURI and a foreign company, uses a special scanner rather than a regular barcode, making the tax stamp traceable and harder to counterfeit. The machines will be placed at large cigarette factories, with data connected directly to the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. Testing is already under way in Jawa Tengah. The government aims to have about 100 machines available in six months and 240 machines in nine months for a gradual rollout.
