Kemenkeu pursues taxes from 40 steel firms, potential Rp5 trillion

Collection is under way, and Kemenkeu is preparing sanctions for internal employees suspected of helping violations slip through.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is pursuing tax arrears from 40 steel companies, with potential state revenue of about Rp4 trillion to Rp5 trillion. In Jakarta on Friday, Purbaya said only one company has completed an audit so far, but its liabilities alone are estimated at Rp4 trillion-Rp5 trillion. The obligations being traced include PPh, PPN, and taxes linked to import activities. Kementerian Keuangan said the tax debt calculation has been completed and collection has begun. Purbaya also pointed to alleged involvement by internal employees, saying the companies were able to slip through for years. He said he has obtained several names and is considering suspension or dismissal if wrongdoing is proven.
