Kemenhub prepares integrated hubs along Trans Sumatra rail

The 1,700-km Banda Aceh-Bandar Lampung route is being planned with funding outside the state budget.

The Ministry of Transportation is preparing integrated transport hubs in several regions as part of the development of the Trans Sumatra rail line. The focus is not transit-oriented development areas, but intermodal hubs that are safe, comfortable and easy to access so passenger and cargo transfers are more efficient. Director General of Transportation Integration and Multimodal Risal Wasal said the hub model will be adjusted to service needs and the character of each region in Sumatra. Earlier, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the railway project from Banda Aceh to Bandar Lampung will not rely on the state budget. The government is seeking alternative financing schemes to accelerate construction of the about 1,700-kilometer network, following President Prabowo Subianto's directive to strengthen logistics transport outside Java.
