Kemendiktisaintek probes fake WNI research at Denmark conference
Brian Yuliarto said most of the suspects are not lecturers, limiting campus ethics penalties and leaving criminal steps open.
Kemendiktisaintek has formed an investigative team over allegations that Indonesian nationals falsified research and identities at the International Symposium on Pneumococci and Pneumococcal Diseases in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 17-21 Mei 2026. Minister Brian Yuliarto said the team is led by the ministry's Inspector General and has coordinated with Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Early findings show most, and in Brian's latest account all of the suspects, are not lecturers or researchers formally affiliated with Indonesian universities. As a result, the ministry's room to impose ethics and disciplinary sanctions is limited. UNY has also summoned four people suspected of involvement. Another early finding is the alleged unauthorized use of campus affiliations, which officials say could amount to fraud. The ministry is now collecting evidence to open legal steps and limit reputational damage to Indonesian researchers.
