Kemenag pushes 3 strategies to strengthen productive zakat
The plan emphasizes business mentoring, Baznas-LAZ coordination, and using DTSEN to prevent duplicated aid.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs is pushing three strategies to strengthen productive zakat so mustahik can become more independent. At the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday (15/10), Director General of Islamic Community Guidance Abu Rokhmad outlined the three priorities: improving empowerment program quality, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and optimizing data and digital transformation. He said zakat should not stop at basic assistance, but also help recipients build businesses, skills, market access, and economic networks. Kemenag is also encouraging coordination among the government, Badan Amil Zakat Nasional, Lembaga Amil Zakat, sharia financial institutions, businesses, universities, and local governments. To improve targeting, Kemenag said using DTSEN aligned with the zakat information system could reduce duplicate aid and improve planning and evaluation.
