Kemenag to hold national prayer at Monas on Aug. 1
The event is expected to draw about 100,000 people and feature interfaith prayers and a choir.
Kementerian Agama will hold a national prayer and remembrance event at Lapangan Monas, Jakarta, on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, as part of the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence. Kamaruddin Amin, the ministry's secretary general, said the thanksgiving and protection prayers are intended to accompany the shared effort to build the nation after independence. Kementerian Agama expects about 100,000 people to attend, including students, Islamic boarding school students, university students, teachers, community figures, religious leaders, representatives of mass organizations, and civil servants from ministries and agencies. The event will also feature interfaith prayers, a choir, and a recitation of shalawat led by Habib Syekh. Abu Rokhmad, director general of Islamic community guidance, said the program is meant to showcase harmony in diversity.
