KBPBI postpones Aug. 10 action, still threatens labor bill protest
The delay followed talks with the National Police chief, while lawmakers face an October deadline set by the Constitutional Court.
Koalisi Besar Perjuangan Buruh Indonesia has postponed the protest it had planned for Aug. 10, but it still left open the possibility of demonstrations if the substance of the RUU Ketenagakerjaan does not accommodate labor demands. After receiving a visit from Kapolri Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the KBPBI joint secretariat in Jakarta on Friday, the coalition said it still prioritized the diplomatic route with the DPR and the government. KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea said the drafting of the regulation must involve all stakeholders and be completed by the end of October in line with the Constitutional Court mandate. KBPBI is also scheduled to resume talks with the working committee on the RUU Ketenagakerjaan of Commission IX of the DPR on Aug. 18. Separately, Daeng Wahidin of KBMI stressed that the coalition remained independent and was ready to hold orderly protests if the outcome of the talks fell short of workers' expectations.
