Karian Dam water recedes, remains of old village emerge in Lebak

Over the past week, house foundations and building walls have reappeared as the dam’s water level fell during the dry season.

The water level at Karian Dam in Kampung Somang, Lebak Regency, Banten, has receded over the past week, causing the remains of an old settlement to reappear. House debris, foundations, building walls and other structures that were previously submerged are now visible again on the reservoir bed. Local residents linked the change to lower dam inflows during the dry season. Aerial photos taken Friday, 24 July 2026, showed parts of the village that had once been underwater clearly visible. For some residents, the reappearance of the ruins serves as a reminder of the old settlement that has since become part of the Karian Dam area.
