Canada opens eTA access for eligible WNI starting May 26
Eligible WNI with a Canadian temporary visa in the past 10 years or a U.S. non-immigrant visa can fly without a new visitor visa.
Canada began applying electronic travel authorization, or eTA, facilities for eligible Indonesian citizens starting May 26, 2026. The scheme allows travelers to fly to Canada without applying for a new visitor visa. Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Jess Dutton in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6) said the policy is meant to make family visits, business trips and tourism easier while strengthening bilateral ties. WNI who can use eTA are those who have held a Canadian temporary resident visa in the past 10 years or who currently hold a U.S. non-immigrant visa. Canada recorded about 18,000 WNI visits in 2025 and expects the number to rise. Ottawa also linked the easing to stronger trade and investment ties, including after ratification of the ICA-CEPA in the Canadian parliament in May 2026.
