Kalsel, GAPKI distribute 20,000 masks as haze thickens

In addition, 17,500 masks went through DLH and BPBD, while palm oil firms are also preparing fire crews to help with hotspots.

The provincial government of Kalimantan Selatan and the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association distributed 20,000 masks for residents affected by haze from forest and land fires in several areas. The handout took place in Banjarbaru on Saturday as air quality was increasingly affected by smoke from the fires. Kalsel Environment Agency head Rahmat Prapto Udoyo said business support is also part of the field response. He said eight companies have joined to strengthen the ground task force for forest and land fires. GAPKI Kalsel Executive Secretary Hairuddin said 17,500 masks were handed over through DLH and BPBD, while 2,500 were distributed directly with DLH, Disbunnak and BPBD Kalsel. In addition to masks, GAPKI member companies are preparing fire-fighting teams to help respond to hotspots.
