Haze blankets Palembang as BMKG tracks spread in 4 provinces
Himawari-9 imagery at 16:00 WIB showed wildfire smoke reaching Sumsel, Kalbar, Kalteng, and Kalsel.
Haze blanketed Palembang, Sumatera Selatan, on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, as the impact of forest and land fires spread across several areas. BMKG monitored Himawari-9 satellite imagery at 16:00 WIB and detected smoke spread across four provinces: Sumatera Selatan, Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Tengah, and Kalimantan Selatan. In Palembang, the haze covered the Ampera Bridge area, the Musi River, and densely populated neighborhoods. The smoke also reduced visibility around the river. Several weeks of dry season have increased the risk of wider karhutla and worsened air quality in affected areas.
