Smoke from forest fires makes Jambi air unhealthy, fires persist
Firefighting remains focused on peatland in Muaro Jambi and Tanjung Jabung Timur as smoke also blankets Malaysia.
Smoke from forest and land fires covered Jambi City on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and pushed air quality in several residential areas into the unhealthy category based on ISPU monitoring. Smoke was seen blanketing shopping districts and riverside neighborhoods along the Batanghari River, while also reducing visibility in the city. Manggala Agni teams from the Ministry of Forestry, along with the TNI, Polri, and other joint crews, are still battling fires at several points, especially on peatland in Muaro Jambi and Tanjung Jabung Timur. Photos and media reports also showed that smoke from Indonesia's forest and land fires is still affecting Malaysia, indicating the spread has not yet been brought under control.
