Judge rejects Roy Suryo challenge to suspect status

The ruling leaves in place the Polda Metro Jaya suspect designation, even after Roy previously won a separate challenge over arrest and detention.

The South Jakarta District Court on Monday (20/7) rejected all of Roy Suryo's pretrial petition challenging the legality of his designation as a suspect by Polda Metro Jaya. Single judge I Ketut Darpawan read out the verdict in the afternoon in case number 108/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL. The case is tied to allegations of defamation and libel related to the authenticity of the diploma of Indonesia's 7th president Joko Widodo. The ruling leaves Roy's suspect status in force. Earlier, in early July, Roy won part of a separate pretrial case after the judge found the search, arrest and detention to be procedurally flawed and the detention not to meet subjective requirements. The judge at that time also ruled that the procedural flaws did not automatically invalidate the entire investigation file.
