Jetstar, Qatar Airways nearly collide at Sydney Airport

One Jetstar crew member was injured, flights were disrupted, and Australia's safety regulator opened an investigation.

Jetstar and Qatar Airways aircraft nearly collided on the ground at Sydney Airport, Australia, on Sunday morning, as a Jetstar Airbus A320 was taxiing for a flight to Gold Coast. Jetstar said its pilot had to brake hard after another aircraft came very close. No passengers were injured, but a Jetstar cabin crew member who was moving inside the cabin suffered injuries and was treated by paramedics. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said the Qatar Airways Boeing 777 was being towed by a tug at the time and was near a taxiway intersection. The bureau also noted damage to the connection between the 777's nose landing gear and the tow vehicle. Airservices Australia reviewed the incident, imposed departure spacing arrangements, and assisted the investigation, which is also collecting data from both aircraft and air traffic controllers.
