Jennifer arrives at Tobe Zoo as Indonesia, Japan continue orangutan conservation

Jennifer was brought from Taman Safari Indonesia under a breeding loan program to pair with Hayato, who was born in Japan.

Indonesia and Japan introduced the Bornean orangutans Jennifer and Hayato to the public at Tobe Zoo in Ehime Prefecture on Saturday (6/6). Jennifer, a female orangutan from Taman Safari Indonesia, was brought in through the International Collaborative Breeding Loan Program, while Hayato is a male orangutan born in Japan. KBRI Tokyo said Jennifer's arrival is part of cooperation on wildlife conservation, environmental education and introducing Indonesia's biodiversity. Ehime Governor Tokihiro Nakamura said he hoped the pair would adapt and support the breeding program at Tobe Zoo. Bornean orangutans are listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List, making population management outside their natural habitat important for species preservation.
