Jeep Mercedes burns after striking trailer on Jagorawi toll road, 2 dead
Police have not identified the two victims because their IDs were destroyed in the fire; the case has been handed to East Jakarta traffic investigators.
Two people were killed after a Jeep Mercedes-Benz struck the rear right side of a trailer truck and caught fire at Km 1.400 A of the Jagorawi toll road toward Bogor, East Jakarta, early Friday. The crash occurred at about 02.15 WIB at the junction from Utara Jaya 2 and UKI. AKBP Reiki Indra Brata Manggala, head of the PJR unit at Polda Metro Jaya's traffic directorate, said the Jeep, with license plate B 2538 STM, was speeding in the second lane, lost control and hit the trailer B 9509 UIY driven by Egi. Three minutes later, the flames spread and burned the entire vehicle. The driver and passenger were trapped and died at the scene. PJR officers, toll road operators, firefighters and Polsek Makasar then extinguished the fire, managed traffic and removed the wreckage. The case is now being handled by the traffic accident unit of Polres Metro Jakarta Timur.
