Jawa Tengah requires MBG kitchens to buy eggs, chicken locally

The deal sets weekly egg and chicken menus twice each in Jawa Tengah, with agreed benchmark prices and direct purchases from farmer groups.

The Jawa Tengah provincial government requires Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) to source eggs and chicken meat from local farmers for the Makan Bergizi Gratis program. The commitment was signed at the Kompleks Kantor Gubernur Jateng in Semarang on Friday by the Jawa Tengah provincial government, Badan Gizi Nasional, poultry farmer associations and farmer cooperatives. Under the agreement, MBG menus in Jawa Tengah must include eggs twice and chicken meat twice each week. Purchases will go directly to associations or cooperatives of small-scale farmers in Jawa Tengah at a price of Rp26.000 per kilogram for eggs and Rp35.000 per kilogram for dressed chicken, equal to Rp20.000 per kilogram live weight. KPUS Jateng estimates egg absorption could reach about 1.050 tons per week, while Pinsar Jateng says chicken absorption is still only about 7 percent of production and has not significantly changed the market.
