Fast-track ITAS-ITAP for foreigners halted after KPK probe

Residence permit processing has returned to the normal 4-5 day procedure, with all payments now required to go to the state treasury.

The government has stopped the fast-track processing of Temporary Stay Permits and Permanent Stay Permits for foreign nationals after the KPK investigated alleged extortion at the Directorate General of Immigration. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said ITAS and ITAP applications are now processed normally in 4-5 days, not 1-3 days through special payments. He said the levy did not go into the state treasury and could be classified as extortion or gratuities. KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto previously said Silmy Karim and seven suspects allegedly took in at least Rp145,5 miliar from foreign residence permit processing during 2022-2026. Yusril added the practice had been in place since Silmy served as Director General of Immigration in 2023, while the cleanup was accelerated after Agus Andrianto took charge of the Ministry of Imipas.
