Jakarta, Bali chosen as pilot projects for wellness tourism
Kemenpar says wellness tourism accounted for 13,35 percent of foreign arrivals and is targeting millennial and Gen Z travelers.
The Ministry of Tourism has designated Jakarta and Bali as the initial locations for development of a wellness tourism ecosystem in 2026-2027. Ministry of Tourism spokesperson Nia Niscaya said Bali was selected because it is already known as a world-class wellness destination with spa, yoga and health traditions rooted in local wisdom. Jakarta is positioned as the gateway for international travelers and a center for business and modern health services, making it suitable for an urban wellness tourism model. Kemenpar said the program will focus not only on building destinations, but also on forming a business ecosystem that includes service standards, product innovation, investment, promotion and workforce capacity. Data for 2024 show wellness tourism contributed 13,35 percent of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia.
