Jackie, California bald eagle followed by thousands online, dies

Jackie, a bald eagle that drew a large online audience through a California nest livestream, died Monday after weeks of intensive veterinary care. The Ojai Raptor Center had been treating her after other eagles attacked her, and said underlying health issues led to anemia and weight loss as her condition worsened. Jackie was a central figure on the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, run by Friends of Big Bear Valley, which built a loyal following during the pandemic. She hatched in spring 2012 and had been paired with Shadow since 2018. Her remains were transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as the center works with state and federal wildlife officials.
