Ivory Coast's Elye Wahi misses Canada World Cup game over entry block

What's new: The striker will stay in the United States as betting-related and corruption allegations in France remain under investigation.

Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi will miss Saturday's World Cup group match against Germany in Toronto after he could not secure authorization to enter Canada, the Ivorian Football Federation said. Wahi, 23, started in Ivory Coast's 1-0 win over Ecuador on Monday and will remain in the United States until the team's return. His travel problem comes as French authorities investigate allegations tied to suspicious betting on a yellow card he received while playing for Nice against Metz in May. Ligue de Football Professionnel said it was alerted to an unusually high volume of bets on the booking and passed the case to police and gambling authorities. The Marseille prosecutor's office said a 23-year-old Ligue 1 player was arrested May 29, questioned and released as the inquiry continued.
