Istana denies Purbaya, Perry removal rumor as rupiah hits Rp18.000
The government also denied a cabinet reshuffle and pushed closer coordination among BI, Kemenkeu, OJK and DPR.
Istana denied reports that President Prabowo Subianto would replace Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, amid pressure on the rupiah, which briefly crossed Rp 18.000 per U.S. dollar. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said there were no plans for either replacement or a cabinet reshuffle in the near term. Purbaya also rejected reports that he would step down from his post. The rumor spread as markets focused on the rupiah's weakness and its fiscal impact. Purbaya previously said a weaker exchange rate would raise the government's debt burden, although fixed-rate bond coupons remained in line with calculations. In the 2026 state budget, the assumed exchange rate is set at Rp 16.500 per U.S. dollar.
