Istana and DPR deny Surpres on Listyo's police chief смена
Istana said that as of 7 August no letter had been sent to DPR, so the formal process to replace the national police chief has not begun.
The Presidential Palace and Commission III of DPR denied reports that President Prabowo Subianto had sent a Presidential Letter to replace National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said on Friday, 7 August 2026, that no such letter to replace the police chief had been sent to DPR by that day. A day earlier, Commission III chairman Habiburokhman also said his checks within DPR and with contacts in Istana showed the letter did not exist. Under the legal procedure, replacing the police chief must be proposed by the President to DPR through a Presidential Letter before it is discussed in Commission III and taken to a plenary session. Listyo had previously said the replacement of the police chief is entirely the President's prerogative.
