Israeli strikes kill 9 in south Lebanon, testing June truce

Why it matters: The attacks were among the deadliest since the U.S.-mediated framework, with children and women reported among the dead.

Israeli airstrikes killed at least nine people in southern Lebanon on Saturday, including seven in a house in Ansar and two more in Deir El Zahrani, Lebanese state media and health authorities said. Those killed in Ansar included three children and two women, according to the National News Agency. Israel's military said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure overnight in a security zone after actions against its soldiers. The strikes were among the deadliest since Lebanon accepted a U.S.-mediated framework in June meant to reduce hostilities. The deal calls for Hezbollah to disarm, the Lebanese army to deploy in the south and Israeli forces to withdraw gradually, though Israel has kept troops in occupied areas.
