Israeli strike on Jabalia police post killed 7 as Gaza ceasefire frays

What's new: at least 12 people were killed across Gaza in two days, with Israel and Hamas trading claims over whether slain police were militants.

An Israeli airstrike on a police post near a market in Jabalia in northern Gaza killed seven people, including senior police officer Mohammed Marwan Salem, as near-daily strikes continued despite a months-old ceasefire. Gaza health and police officials said a woman and six officers were killed Tuesday. The Israeli military said Salem headed military security for Hamas' Central Jabalia Battalion and that three other militants were killed. It did not provide evidence for that claim. Separate strikes and gunfire in Khan Younis, Rafah and central Gaza brought the death toll over two days to at least 12, according to local hospital officials. The United Nations human rights office said last month Gaza police had been hit at least a dozen times this year.
