Island Region Bill Included in 2026 Priority Legislation Agenda
Formappi researcher says the move shows DPD is beginning to more effectively channel regional aspirations into national policy.
The Island Region Bill has been included in the 2026 Priority Legislation Program, and a researcher at Forum Masyarakat Peduli Parlemen Indonesia said the move shows DPD RI is taking on a more strategic role in the legislative process. The assessment was delivered by Lucius Karus after DPD RI Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin spoke at the Joint Session of DPR and DPD RI in Senayan, Central Jakarta. According to Lucius, DPD is no longer limited to criticizing or evaluating the government, but is also advancing constructive proposals that have received a response from the government. He said the development is important for central-regional relations because DPD is working to ensure regional aspirations are translated into national policy.
