Iran fully closes Strait of Hormuz, all ships at risk

The move again chokes a route carrying about 20 percent of global oil and gas supplies amid fresh U.S. attacks.

Iran fully closed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday (11/6), including for commercial ships and oil tankers, after fresh U.S. attacks. Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that any vessel attempting to pass would be targeted. According to reports cited by Republika and Antara, Tehran also denied claims that shipping in the strait was still operating normally. The Strait of Hormuz had been partially reopened after a temporary U.S.-Iran ceasefire in April, but the latest escalation has again disrupted an energy route that carries about 20 percent of world oil and gas needs. Iranian media also reported clashes in the Hormuz waters and attacks at several points, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Qeshm, Pulau Hengam, and Gorgan.
