Iran hold 10-man Belgium 0-0, stay alive in World Cup Group G
What's next: Iran can still reach the knockout stage for the first time with a result against Egypt.
Iran kept their World Cup hopes alive with a 0-0 draw against 10-man Belgium at Los Angeles Stadium, with goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand producing a series of key saves in Group G. The result left Belgium still winless and put Iran within reach of a first trip to the knockout round. Nathan Ngoy was sent off for Belgium, but Iran could not turn the extra man into a goal. After the match, Iran left a handwritten note in the dressing room thanking Los Angeles for its hospitality and calling for “peace, respect and friendship” among nations. The message, released by the Football Federation of Iran, also referred to the attack on a girls' school in Minab.
