Iran calls off attack on 3 Ukraine sites after Kyiv apology
Teheran still demands compensation for the July 25 attack on its cargo ship in the Caspian Sea that killed a crew member.
Iran canceled plans to attack three locations in Ukraine after Kyiv offered an apology over the July 25 incident involving an Iranian cargo ship in the Caspian Sea. Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said preparations for the strike were complete before the operation was halted. Iran said a Ukrainian drone attack killed one crew member. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later called Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and demanded compensation for the damage. Sybiha said Ukraine's actions were aimed at confronting Russian aggression and were not intended to target ships or civilians. Rezaei provided no evidence for the claim about the three targets or the locations that were to be hit.
