INSA builds new safety standards for tourist vessels
As a result, tourist-vessel insurance premiums are expected to become more competitive and financing access for marine tourism could improve.
The national tourist-vessel industry is beginning to strengthen safety standards and risk management to improve voyage safety while supporting the competitiveness of Indonesia's marine tourism. Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) has teamed with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI), PT Jasaraharja Putera, and PT Reasuransi Indonesia Utama or Indonesia Re to build a more integrated system. One step is the application of a special tourist-vessel notation by BKI to tighten classification standards. DPP INSA Vice Chairman Nova Y. Mugijanto said better classification and risk management would make insurance protection more optimal. The scheme is also expected to raise financial institutions' confidence in tourist vessels as financing assets and speed the development of national marine tourism.
