Indonesia uses Halal Expo 2026 to draw D-8 investment
Purbaya also pushed local halal gelatin to replace hundreds of tons of imports whose halal status he said remains unclear.
Indonesia is using its D-8 chairmanship to strengthen halal economic cooperation through Halal Expo Indonesia 2026. At Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7), Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the government wants to invite investors from D-8 member countries and, if needed, send Indonesian investors there to deepen two-way investment. He said the expo also opens opportunities for trade in halal products among Islamic countries. One example he highlighted was developing domestic halal gelatin production to replace imports that reach hundreds of tons. According to Purbaya, the imported products are said not to have guaranteed halal status, although national production capacity still needs further study.
