Indonesia edges Thailand 3-2 to keep AVC Cup semifinal hopes alive
Indonesia’s final Group B match against Oman on June 26 will decide whether it can reach the semifinals.
Indonesia’s men’s volleyball team kept its hopes of reaching the 2026 AVC Cup Men semifinals alive after beating Thailand 3-2 in a Group B match in Ahmedabad, India, on Tuesday. Indonesia won 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10. The result was its second victory for Merah Putih after a 3-2 win over Qatar, and it helped the team recover from a 0-3 loss to Korea Selatan in the opener. Assistant coach Nur Widayanto said Indonesia struggled in the first set because its middle blocker play was not yet effective. The team then changed its rotation by switching Ahmad Gumilar and Hendra Kurniawan, and kept the adjustment through the deciding set. Indonesia also relied heavily on Farhan Halim, Alfin Daniel, Fauzan Nibran and Boy Arnez Arabi. The final match against Oman on Friday, June 26, will determine its chances of advancing to the semifinals.
