Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk ends 26-day hunger strike
What's next: protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar are set to continue as students still demand the education minister's resignation.
Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk ended a 26-day hunger strike after the government assured him that protesters at Delhi's Jantar Mantar would face no legal action, the BBC reported, citing NDTV. Wangchuk had been hospitalized and treated in intensive care after fasting through the summer heat on salt and water. The protest movement, known as the Cockroach Janta Party, has rallied for weeks over exam paper leaks and the cancellation of a key medical entrance test in May. Demonstrators are still pressing for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to quit, arguing he should take responsibility. The unrest has become one of the most visible youth-led challenges to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in recent years.
