India blocks Telegram until June 22 over NEET exam cheating

India moved to block Telegram through June 22, days before it reruns the NEET-UG medical entrance exam, after authorities said cheating networks were using the app to target candidates. The National Testing Agency said the temporary restriction was ordered under India's IT law after earlier efforts to remove fraudulent content did not work. It also said the government directed Telegram to disable message editing in India until June 30, alleging the feature had been used to fabricate evidence of paper leaks. Nearly 2.28 million students took the original exam on May 3, but officials scrapped it after leak allegations triggered protests. The Central Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case, and more than a dozen arrests have been made.
