ILRC says torture of woman in Bandung risks femicide
The group says isolation, confinement and permanent injuries in YT's case point to coercive control that could escalate to gender-based killing.
The Indonesian Legal Resource Center (ILRC) says the case of confinement and severe abuse against a woman identified as YT in Kabupaten Bandung, Jawa Barat, cannot be treated as ordinary assault. The group said the sequence of violence allegedly carried out by the victim's boyfriend, TH, shows a pattern of coercive control and risks developing into femicide. ILRC called on police to arrest the perpetrator immediately and seek a heavy sentence, while also ensuring the victim's recovery. According to ILRC, the victim was separated from her family for about three years, moved from place to place, was not free to use a phone, and suffered repeated abuse. As a result, YT suffered vision problems that led to loss of sight and leg disorders that left her unable to walk normally.
