IHSG Opens Down 15.34 Points to 6,390 Amid Protest Worries

Markets also weighed 3.7 percent U.S. PCE inflation and a near-64 percent chance the Fed will hold rates in September.

IHSG opened lower by 15.34 points, or 0.24 percent, at 6,390.35 on Thursday, while the LQ45 index fell 2.47 points, or 0.39 percent, to 630.08. Market participants stayed on the sidelines as they watched demonstrations around the DPR/MPR Building in Jakarta, which were seen as a potential short-term risk for the domestic stock market. Phintraco Sekuritas expects IHSG to move in the 6,350-6,450 range. From abroad, U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures inflation in July came in at 3.7 percent year on year, slightly above the 3.6 percent forecast. The data boosted expectations that the Fed will keep rates unchanged in September, with the odds on the CME FedWatch Tool rising to nearly 64 percent. Markets are also awaiting the Fed chair's speech in Jackson Hole and Nvidia's quarterly earnings report.
