IDAI: Climate change widens dengue spread, children at risk

As of Oct. 28, 2025, Kemenkes recorded 131.393 dengue cases and 544 deaths across 36 provinces.

Ikatan Dokter Anak Indonesia warned that climate change is widening the spread of tropical diseases, especially dengue fever, into areas that were previously too cold for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Dr. Riyadi, a member of IDAI's Environmental Health and Climate Change task force, said rising global temperatures make Aedes aegypti mosquitoes easier to breed and allow them to reach highland areas that were once unaffected. Changes in rainfall patterns also create more standing water, which serves as breeding sites for mosquitoes. Data from the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health showed that as of Oct. 28, 2025 there were 131.393 dengue cases, 544 deaths, and spread across 471 regencies/cities in 36 provinces. IDAI said children are more vulnerable and urged prevention through 3M Plus.
