ICE encounter in Maine left 1 man dead days after Houston shooting
What's new: Witnesses described agents using an SUV to pin a car in Biddeford, while lawmakers pressed for a transparent federal investigation.
A man in his 20s was killed July 13 during an encounter with US immigration agents in Biddeford, Maine, according to state and federal officials, marking a second fatal incident involving ICE within days. Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau said ICE was involved, and the FBI said it responded to assist at the scene. Immigration advocates identified the dead man as a 26-year-old Colombian authorized to work in the US. Witness Daniel Boucher told Reuters he saw a white SUV strike a smaller white car repeatedly before an officer pulled the driver out. Senator Angus King said he sought a full investigation after speaking with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and added that the agents apparently were not wearing body cameras. The shooting came days after ICE fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston.
