Ibrahima Konate to leave Liverpool when contract expires
Liverpool confirmed Ibrahima Konate will depart at the end of June 2026 on a free transfer after talks on a new deal broke down.
Liverpool announced Ibrahima Konate will leave the club when his contract expires on 30 June 2026. The France international will depart on a free transfer after negotiations over an extension, which had been ongoing since late 2023, failed to reach agreement. In his farewell message, Konate described five years at Anfield as one of the most valuable periods of his career. Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, he developed into a key part of Liverpool's defense and helped the club win the Premier League in the 2024/2025 season. His exit adds to the list of senior players leaving Liverpool after Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson, and could force the club to seek an experienced center back to partner Virgil van Dijk next season.
