IAEA chief says inspectors will return to Iran nuclear sites soon

What's new: Rafael Grossi said dates and procedures are still being worked out under a 60-day US-Iran accord.

The U.N. nuclear watchdog expects to resume inspections at Iran’s sensitive nuclear sites soon under last week’s interim U.S.-Iran accord, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi said on June 24 in Japan. Grossi said the agency was now working with Tehran on dates, procedures and locations for the visits. Access to key enrichment facilities has been blocked since U.S. and Israeli strikes and the 2025 war, leaving the IAEA unable to verify the status of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile. The agency had estimated Iran held 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60% purity before Israel’s first attack in June 2025, material that could be further enriched to weapons grade.
