Hyundai readies Neira with local content above 60% in 2027
The 7-seat electric vehicle will be assembled in Cikarang, backed by a Karawang battery plant and prepared for export after the domestic market.
PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia is preparing its latest electric vehicle, Hyundai Neira, with local content of more than 60% to meet the minimum domestic content requirement taking effect in 2027. HMID Chief Operating Officer Fransiscus Soerjopranoto said the target is supported by a battery plant in Karawang and Hyundai Manufacturing Indonesia's assembly facility in Cikarang, West Java. In the initial stage, Hyundai will prioritize the Indonesian market before opening exports. Neira is also designed to match domestic consumer needs, including 200 millimeter ground clearance, Bluelink technology, safety features and a seven-passenger configuration. The name Neira is taken from Banda Neira and tied to Indonesia's identity as a nickel producer.
