Houston DA seeks 2 ICE detainees as witnesses in agent vehicle strike
What's new: Prosecutors say the two men were in the back seat of the ICE vehicle and were moved to detention before they could be interviewed.
Harris County prosecutors are trying to question two detainees who were allegedly in the back seat of an ICE vehicle when an agent struck Miguel Parra Hernandez during an enforcement operation outside Houston on Saturday. District Attorney Sean Teare said the two men are material witnesses and were taken to a detention facility before local investigators could interview them. Surveillance video reviewed by local media appears to show the SUV pursuing Parra Hernandez, 48, before he was hit and suffered a broken leg that required surgery. ICE rejected claims that the strike was intentional and said Parra Hernandez ran in front of the vehicle. Teare said the footage could support an aggravated assault charge. The operation was aimed at Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, who ICE said remained at large.
