House releases Bill Gates, Lesley Groff transcripts in Epstein probe

What's new: Gates told lawmakers he met Epstein to seek support for the Gates Foundation and called those contacts a "grave error in judgment."

The House Oversight Committee on Tuesday released transcripts of closed-door June testimony from Bill Gates and Lesley Groff as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. Gates, the Microsoft co-founder and Gates Foundation chair, told lawmakers he regretted meeting Epstein and said the contacts were aimed at securing backing for foundation work. He said he never saw Epstein engaged in criminal conduct. Groff, Epstein's former executive assistant, told the panel she also never witnessed illegal behavior, though she acknowledged scheduling massages she believed were legitimate. The committee obtained the interviews after Gates' name appeared in Justice Department files tied to the broader Epstein probe. Epstein died in 2019 after facing federal sex-trafficking charges.
