House rejects 314-104 bid to cut off $3.3 billion in Israel aid

What’s new: 103 Democrats backed the failed amendment, exposing a sharper split in the party over the Gaza war.

The House of Representatives voted 314-104 on July 15 to defeat an amendment that would have barred funding for Israel in a State Department spending bill, preserving the $3.3 billion in annual US security assistance. The measure was offered by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who opposes foreign aid and cited the civilian toll in Gaza. The vote was mostly symbolic because any such cutoff would still need Senate approval and would likely face a veto from President Donald Trump. But the result showed a significant shift inside the Democratic Party: 103 Democrats joined one Republican in supporting the amendment, while House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries opposed it as too broad and Rep. Katherine Clark backed it.
