House passes $70 billion bill to expand Trump deportation push
What's new: The 214-212 measure would steer $38 billion to ICE and $26 billion to Border Patrol through the next three years.
The House narrowly passed a $70 billion immigration enforcement bill on Tuesday, sending it to President Donald Trump for his expected signature and giving his administration a major infusion of money for deportations. The measure cleared the chamber 214-212 after Republicans dropped disputed provisions, including more than $1 billion for White House security and a $1.8 billion compensation fund for Trump allies. The final bill would provide $38 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, $26 billion for Border Patrol and another $5 billion for unforeseen costs. Democrats opposed the package, arguing it gives enforcement agencies broad funding with few operational constraints or oversight.
