House fire in Cirebon kills 71-year-old man
Officials suspect a lit mosquito repellent started the blaze, which spread before dawn and left the home heavily damaged.
An elderly resident named Samijo, 71, died in a house fire in Dusun Panggang, Desa Losari Lor, Kecamatan Losari, Kabupaten Cirebon, early Saturday (13/6/2026). The fire was first seen around 04.05 WIB on the roof of the victim’s home, where he was known to live alone. Residents tried to put out the flames with makeshift equipment before reporting the blaze to Damkar Sektor Losari. According to Eno Sujana of the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Service, the report was received at 04.28 WIB and firefighters arrived about four minutes later. By then, the main fire had been extinguished, but embers and smoke remained, so crews continued cooling operations. Initial findings suggest the fire started when a lit mosquito repellent contacted a mattress or kapok-filled pillow.
