Hawaii voters headed to the polls Saturday in primary elections centered on Gov. Josh Green’s reelection bid, a competitive race for lieutenant governor and a Democratic House challenge tied to the federal SAVE Act. Green entered the vote as the clear favorite in his party’s gubernatorial primary, while Republicans Gary Cordery and Ken Fujiyama competed for a long-shot shot at the governorship in November. The lieutenant governor’s race drew unusual attention after Sylvia Luke pleaded not guilty in July to bribery charges linked to her 2022 campaign and took unpaid leave in April. In the 1st Congressional District, Rep. Ed Case faced a primary fight from state Sen. Jarrett Keohokalole after Case backed an earlier version of the SAVE Act.
