Bandung staple prices stay stable as chili costs ease
Disdagin now puts red bird’s-eye chilies at Rp60.000-Rp80.000 per kg, with the next cheap-market program due around September 2026.
The Bandung City Trade and Industry Office said staple prices at traditional markets and modern retailers remained relatively stable in its latest monitoring last Thursday. Several commodities even fell from previous weeks, especially red bird’s-eye chilies and red tanjung chilies. Meiwan Kartiwa, head of the Distribution and Trade Monitoring and Metrology Division at Disdagin Kota Bandung, said red bird’s-eye chilies are now trading at Rp60.000 to Rp80.000 per kilogram, while red tanjung chilies are at Rp40.000 to Rp60.000 per kilogram. Broiler chicken prices were also still below the government reference level, at around Rp38.000-Rp40.000 per kilogram. Disdagin also noted that cooking oil, which had previously risen, has now stabilized again. To help ease the burden on residents’ shopping costs, the cheap-market program will be held again in the third quarter, around September 2026.
