Judge rejects Yaqut request for house arrest in hajj case
The panel found his post-surgery medication and wound care needs can still be met in KPK detention, with outpatient treatment possible if needed.
Judges at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court rejected former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas' request to change his detention from the KPK detention center to house arrest in the alleged 2023-2024 hajj quota corruption case. Chief judge Ni Kadek Susantiani said the medical reasons Yaqut submitted — the need to take medicine regularly and clean a wound after surgery — can still be handled at the KPK detention center. If an emergency arises, the defendant was asked to consult the detention center doctor to determine whether outpatient or inpatient care is needed. The judges also left open the possibility of granting permission for outpatient treatment at the surgery clinic. In the case, Yaqut is charged with causing state losses of Rp622,09 miliar over the distribution of additional special hajj quota.
